Sensitive populations – medication reminder
A small pan-European study involved a patient population that was mentally impaired.
The Challenge
Although simple SMS reminders could have been effective it was thought that an image, rather than text would be more effective for this population. It was critical that the message was understood as it was to act as a medication reminder and compliance program for the patient.
The Solution
Messages were sent to the patient that included an image of a medication bottle. The patient was then asked to reply to the message with a simple Y or N (in their local language) to confirm that the medication was taken. The image was changed at different time points throughout the study to keep it relevant and fresh.
The Results
- Patient medication compliance was recorded at 93% over the 12 month study duration
- Patient found the image's a more friendly and fun reminder service. They also liked the personalised messages from the site
- Full audit trail of messaging allowed the system to alert sites to non-compliance
